McNair scholars are promising students who
come from at least ONE of the populations listed below that
are underrepresented in graduate school: |

Low-income AND first-generation college student (i.e. neither parent has attained a bachelor's
degree). |

Students must also: |
|
 |
Be a citizen or permanent
resident of the United States |

Be an undergraduate college junior or senior enrolled in a
Colorado institution |

Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0
or above. |

The minimum GPA may be waived under special
circumstances, and when an applicant provides evidence that
success is likely.

Be majoring in
one of the following areas of study:
○ Agricultural Sciences
○ Engineering
○ Natural Sciences
○ Veterinary Medicine
○ Biomedical Sciences
○ Experimental Psychology

Personal and expert
assistance with short-range academic goals, as well as the
development of a doctoral attainment plan. |

aid, graduate entrance exams, and information on paid internships around
the nation. |

Three credit seminar "Building a Foundation for Graduate School" |
|
|
 |
Funds for faculty-mentored research projects. |

GRE preparation workshop,
tutoring, and the personal assistance. |

Summer
research internships: $3,200 stipend, plus room & board, and
3 paid credits. |
|
|
 |
Opportunity to attend national conferences,
all expenses paid. |

Once enrolled at graduate school at CSU, have the opportunity to apply for the
McNair Graduate
Fellowship. |

Summer program dates: May 27 - July 29, 2008
Consult with McNair staff about goals and progress for graduate school. |
|
 |
Attend the 3-credit seminar course. |
|
 |
Attend and present at the
annual Rocky Mountain McNair conference. |
|
 |
Attend McNair GRE preparation workshop. |
|
 |
Complete a 9 week
faculty-mentored research project, including a final written
report and presentation. |
|
 |
Participate in program
activities per contract agreement. |
|
 |
Upon completion of the McNair program students are
required to apply to 3 graduate schools. |
|
 |
Complete McNair evaluation assessments
to monitor individual program success. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Programs are
one of the educational opportunity programs funded under the
Higher Education Act of 1965 collectively known as
TRiO
Programs. They focus on students from families whose incomes
fall below 150% of the poverty level where neither parent
graduated from college. The McNair Scholars Program is
funded by the U.S. Department of Education and Colorado
State University. |
