Ronald E. McNair Graduate Fellowship Application
DEADLINE: February 15, 2008 for full consideration
The Graduate School at Colorado State University has awarded
the Graduate Center for Diversity and Access a grant to
support the Ronald E. McNair Graduate Fellowship Program.
The Ronald
E. McNair Graduate Fellowship Program seeks to increase the
number of students successfully completing quality Ph.D.
programs at CSU. Students chosen to participate as
McNair Fellows receive funding for the first year of their
graduate study. The long term goal of the McNair Fellowship
Program is to increase the number of McNair Fellows who earn
their doctorates and seek careers as university professors
or researchers.
Student
candidates must be McNair Scholars or McNair eligible. To be
McNair eligible, candidates must be a member of at least ONE
group that is underrepresented in graduate education. The
following groups meet this criteria:
Students Eligible for a McNair Graduate
Fellowship:

Have earned a
baccalaureate degree with a minimum undergraduate GPA of
3.0
-
Are US citizens or
Permanent Residents
-
Plan to pursue their
doctorates and seek careers as university professors or
researchers
-
Have been admitted
to the CSU Graduate School and a graduate program
-
Come from at least ONE group that is
underrepresented in graduate education:
○ Low income AND
first-generation college student
○ African American
○ Alaskan Native
○ American Indian
○ Hispanic
○ Native Hawaiian or
other Native Pacific Islander

Are
committed to contributing to Colorado State University's
diversity plan
- Should apply by February 15th for full consideration
Requirements of Fellows:

Maintain
status as a full-time student and a 3.00 GPA

Participate
in all program activities
-
Develop an
individual and academic career plan
Benefits to Fellows:
- $15,000 Fellowship for one year
- 10-20 hour/week paid assistantship during the
fellowship and corresponding 50%-100% paid in-state
tuition; Fellows pay in-state tuition, regardless of
residency
- Seminars covering a wide range of topics to enhance
the academic preparations of McNair scholars. Examples
of seminar topics are: How to Succeed in Graduate
School, Understanding the Process and the Importance of
Obtaining the Doctorate Degree, and Grant Writing.
- Faculty and peer lunches to support student
networking and promote Ph.D. opportunities.
